Cults of the Roman Occupation: The Impact of Roman Religion on Celtic England

Image
The Roman occupation of Celtic England brought about many changes to the indigenous population, including the introduction of new religious beliefs and practices. One aspect of this cultural shift was the emergence of various cults, which developed alongside the Roman religion and had a significant impact on the spiritual beliefs of the Celtic people. One of the most notable cults to emerge during this time was the cult of the mother goddess, known as the Matres or Matronae. This cult was popular among the Celtic women and was characterised by the worship of mother goddesses who were believed to be responsible for fertility, childbirth and the protection of the home. The cult of the Matres was often associated with the Roman goddesses such as Ceres, Venus and Bona Dea, and was often depicted in statuary and inscriptions throughout Celtic England. Another significant cult that emerged during the Roman occupation was the cult of the god Mithras. This cult, which originated in the Eastern...

The second more important occasion that turns up demanding more from the student in terms of one’s writing skill is Post Graduation. Image
Kannur University B A English Main II Semester COMPLEMENTARY ELECTIVE 02 VICTORIAN ENGLAND AND CHARLES DARWIN PARAGRAPH  QUESTION   Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution  Two theories regarding the origin and the survival of life as we see it now were proposed during the Nineteenth century. The first of these theories was proposed by the French Naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in 1809, which proposed that life on earth was formed spontaneously from inert matter. This life later underwent transformations and the traits developed by one organism was passed onto its offsprings according to this notion. Charles Darwin, an English naturalist, geologist and biologist in his seminal text published in 1859 titled The Origin of Species proposed “the theory of evolution by natural selection”. He argued that the species that are better adapted to their environments are more likely to survive and reproduce. He gathered these insights from his 1831 voyage from Plymouth, Engl...
